TTC to reconsider subway for Scarborough

Posted By: Newstalk 1010 · 10/25/2012 6:40:00 AM

The TTC board is asking staff to reconsider building a subway in Scarborough instead of an LRT.

Earlier this year, city council voted to replace the Scarborough RT with an LRT.

On Wednesday, the majority of councillors on the TTC board asked officials to put together a feasibility report into extending the Bloor-Danforth subway line to Sheppard Ave and McCowan Rd.

TTC chair Karen Stintz told reporters after the meeting that this does not reopen the transit debate.

Council could vote as soon as next week on a master agreement between the city, TTC and Metrolinx on the four LRT lines approved earlier this year.

Also at that meeting, the board discussed building a second subway line downtown to relieve the pressure off of the Yonge-University line, and they want to make that a priority.

The new line would connect Pape and St. Andrew stations first, then extend the line to Dundas West, and finally connect it to Don Mills Rd and Eglinton.

get rid of stintz and have ttc run by a professional like byford, without councillors running it. ttc too important to be run by an amateur as we can see by all the disastrous mistakes that have been going on ever since professional management was neutered by councillors.

hope they put in subway; it's the only way to go

@proton Another good idea from proton ... let's keep Hog Town 50 years behind the times and dig some more tunnels. Don't ever move forward intelligently or in a fiscally responsible way (light rail).
