Cabbagetown asked to help look for murder weapon
Police investigating the murder of Nighisti Semret are asking the people of Cabbagetown to check their yards for a knife.
The focus is on an area bounded by Sherbourne St, Carlton St, Ontario St & Wellesley St E.
The woman friends called Nicki was stabbed to death in an alleyway off Ontario St. early Tuesday morning. She was on her way home from her shift as a night cleaner at the Delta Chelsea Hotel.
If you find a knife, Toronto Police Constable Tony Vella says you shouldn't touch it, but give cops a heads up.
Vella is also asking home owners & businesses with security cameras to check their recordings for 6:30am -7am on Tuesday for anything suspicious.
Police don't believe Nicki knew her attacker.
Thursday night, a 2nd vigil is being held for her in the laneway where she was killed & a tree will be planted there in her memory.
