CIty Ombudsman Blasts TTC
The latest report from city Ombudsman Fiona Crean finds that the TTC "made a mess of public consultations" in plans to build new exits at Donlands and Greenwood subway stations, not letting residents know about plans to take over all or part of their land until the last minute.
The plans are now on hold and Crean says the commission has agreed mistakes were made and will adopt all of her recommendations, including a promise to develop a policy for public consultations and a commitment to let residents and councillors know about projects are planned for their area.
Crean's report finds that the TTC didn't tell residents about plans for the additional exits six months after the decision was made on where to move ahead.
One person and his terminally ill spouse only found out the TTC was eying their property for expropriation from a reporter on the same day the TTC was meeting to discuss the plans.
Crean says this is a concern because it could happen in any neighbourhood.
