Opposition React To Bentley's Decision
Opposition members at Queen's Park say they aren't surprised the Energy Minister will not only will he not be seeking the Liberal leadership but won't be seeking re-election.
Chris Bentley made it official in a statement posted on his website Friday morning.
PC Finance Critic MPP Peter Shurman says given the announcements from the Premier and Finance minister, he wants to know who's next. Shurman says the cabinet is falling apart because they can't manage a minority government or the Ontario economy.
Shurman says he doesn't think Bentley is the last person to leave the Liberals. He says it will be interesting to see how credit agencies react to what's happening.
NDP Energy Critic MPP Peter Tabuns maintains he thinks Bentley was thrown under the bus by the premier, referring to having him handle the Mississauga and Oakville gas plant cancellation issue. This includes the release of documents that saw Bentley face a contempt motion.
Both say they still want a committee to look into the gas plant cancellations, even if Bentley isn't at the legislature.
