American East Coast on the move ahead of Sandy
The eastern third of the US is scrambling to get ready for Hurricane Sandy.
The Mayor of New York City has ordered 375, 000 people living in low-lying area to get out. Michael Bloomberg says the evacuation is mandatory to keep New Yorkers & 1st responders out of harm's way.
Those clearing out will have to act fast. The transit authority which serves a big chunk of New York state & Conneticut will start to shut down at 7pm Sunday.
Bloomberg has also ordered the shut down of all the Big Apple's public schools Monday.
Sandy is expected to make landfall somewhere between Delaware & New York Monday night.
States of emergency are in effect from North Carolina to Conneticut. Sandy brings more than just the threat of rain & damaging winds.
Forecasters are actually more worried about inland flooding from the storm surge than
winds. Rains could saturate the ground & knock trees into power lines leaving thousands in the dark for days.
