Porter Airlines have cancelled flights to and from Newark, Boston and Washington both today and tomorrow.

But the Billy Bishop Island Airport is essentially closed between 3 o'clock on Monday, and noon on Tuesday, because of the high winds associated with Hurricane Sandy.

Brad Cicero from Porter Airlines says those cancellations could be extended, depending on what happens in other areas.

Things like the ability of airports in other cities getting their transit up and running  will affect whether planes fly or not.

Cicero says if you plan on flying, call ahead or check the website.

He also says if you have to make a change to your travel plans, you may be able to do so without the regular fees that would be associated with that.
