Broten Not Running For Liberal Leader
The Education Minister has announced she will not be running for Ontario Liberal Party leader.
She is just another name added to the list of prominent Liberals not going for the job.
In a letter to constituents sent out Thursday morning, Laurel Broten thanked them for their support but noted the time isn't right for her.
She says she will continue on as both Education Minister and Minister responsible for women's issues. She has been an MPP for Etobicoke-Lakeshore since 1999.
Broten wrote that she feels optimistic in this time of renewal for the Liberal party and maintains she will be engaged in the leadership race.
Other Liberals who have recently announced they wouldn't be running for leader: Finance Minister Dwight Duncan, Energy Minister Chris Bentley, -Economic Development Minister Brad Duguid, Former Health Minister George Smitherman and Former Attorney General Michael Bryant.
Health Minister Deb Matthews, Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Kathleen Wynne, and former Economic Development Minister Sandra Pupatello have yet to announce their intentions.
