Kennedy Eyes Ontario Liberal Leadership
Former MPP and MP Gerard Kennedy will be testing the Ontario Leadership waters this weekend.
He's be holding what's being called a draft meeting in the Bloor and Keele area on Saturday afternoon.
The event's description says Kennedy is "genuinely exploring the feasibility of a run for leader of the Ontario Liberal Party." It asks supporters to come if they are willing and able to show their support, help out on a campaign or brainstorm on how the party can be renewed.
Kennedy is no stranger to leadership races, losing out in round-robins to Premier Dalton McGuinty in the 1996 contest and Stephen Dion in the 2006 federal race.
He was an MPP at Queen's Park from 1996-1999 in the old riding of York South and from 1999-2006 in Parkdale-High Park. He was the first Education Minister in the McGuinty government. In 2008, Kennedy looked to Ottawa and became a Liberal MP for Parkdale-High Park for three years.
