Teachers Continue Talks With Province

Posted By: Katie Franzios · 11/7/2012 5:44:00 PM

Talks between the province's public secondary teachers and Ministry of education staff continue.

They have been at the discussion table at a boardroom in Queen's Park, trying to figure out when and how things between the two sides will progress.

The Ontario Secondary Sschool Teachers Federation (OSSTF) have been speaking with the province since the early afternoon. This comes after the union decided to push back job action from Wednesday to Sunday in hopes of carrying on conversations with the province.

Earlier in the day in Niagara, Premier Dalton McGuinty underlined what's outlined in Bill 115 are non-negotiables, pointing specifically to wage freezes. However, he noted there is room to move outside of that.

McGuinty says he's happy OSSTF decided to push back the job action planned for eight school boards. He says right now, the two sides have a good dialogue.

As I said on another article about this: the best resolution they could reach would be for everyone involved to realize that the Putting Students First Act is the best thing to happen to education in this province in a long time, and quit making such a big deal about doing their damn jobs. If being able to strike is the most important thing about your career, go work in an auto factory.
