York Police Looking For Help in Case of 'Branded' Dog

Posted By: Newstalk 1010 · 11/8/2012 4:29:00 PM

Police are urging the public to come forward with information after an injured dog branded with the numbers ``191'' was found in Aurora.

Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals spokesman Brad Dewar says the male dog was emaciated and near death when discovered by a York Region police officer.

Const. Netashia McLellan says she got a call last Sunday after a homeowner found the animal, which she believes was used for hunting.

Dewar says the marks were chemically branded on both sides of the dog's body, and that the animal also suffered traumatic head injuries causing blindness in its right eye.

He says the animal spent two days under treatment and is expected to make a full recovery before being put up for adoption.

Dewar called the case ``suspicious'' but says it's not yet clear if the animal was abused.

He said it is possible that the branding was done with bleach or spray paint.

People who abuse dogs should be locked up because they will abuse humans!

@David Ralph David, you are so right! Whenever these terrible instances of animal abuse come to light, there is always an outcry from people saying thjey're only animals what about suffering humans. Well, I care about abused animals and suffering humans. These people should also realize that people who abuse animals WILL inevitibly abuse humans, it is a proven fact. Take these sicko animal abusers and deal with them adequately ie: huge jail terms in with the general population, because criminals love animals too! Also, these animal abusers take great delight in their "work"!

Hopefully someone gives that little fella a loving home once he's recovered.

" it's not yet clear if the animal was abused" - how can anyone say that? Chemically branding an animal sounds abusive to me.

When they find the sicko who did this I think they should strip them down, put on one of those collars that gives off an electric shock whenever they even wiggle a toe, leash them, take them into a public place and brand each butt cheek with a branding iron - then put them into a cage which is small enough to be very uncomfortable and put them up for adoption in another country. Sorry, haven't had my first coffee of the day yet. Poor little dog, I hope that someone is able to give him a loving home as well. I also hope this person doesn't have children!

@Judi Robertson Judi, you are much too generous. You have earned that coffee though. I'm a full grown man with thicker skin then most. I can be reduced to tears in mere seconds when presented with an image of a clearly abused animal. I do believe in vigilante justice though, so here's to hoping an animal lover catches this guy before the authorities do. God bless
