VIDEO: Removal of Jarvis bike lanes delayed again

Posted By: Justine Lewkowicz · 11/13/2012 4:49:00 PM

The removal of the Jarvis bike lanes has been suspended once again, this time because of a mechanical problem.

When crews started the removal on Monday, a group of protestors blocked the road and the workers decided to suspend their work for the day.

On Tuesday morning, the crews were delayed once again. A protestor put down his bike and sat in front of the truck. Witnesses say he sat there for about an hour while police explained they would have to arrest him. The cyclist decided to stay put and go quietly with police. He has been charged with obstructing property.

Other protestors say the man arrested is a doctor at St Mike's hospital.

At about 2 o'clock, crews had to call it a day when their truck broke down.

Cyclists celebrated and shook hands as the truck pulled away.

"We'll take anything we can get," says Wayne.

The initial decision to instal bike lanes on Jarvis Street was a mistake, now let's get on with putting Jarvis Street back to its original state. New bike lanes will be on Sherbourne Street. Vehicular traffic downtown needs Jarvis Street and since there are many more cars than bikes and since winter is coming, let's get on with it. Enough is enough.

great country we live in! we have anarchists disrupting democracy, the cops doing nothing, and our taxes continue to be wasted because of this disruption.

dr. should be charged and responsible for all costs associated with his illegal action.
