Charges have been laid now in a home invasion & dual sexual assault in mid-town Toronto.

20-year old Alaa Hejazi turned himself in to police early Wednesday.

Hejazi is charged with forcible confinement, break & enter, threatening bodily harm, sexual assault with a weapon, robbery, threatening death & possession of property obtained by crime.

Toronto Police Detective Sergeant LeeAnn Papizewski says they aren't looking at Hejazi in connection with any other crimes & he has no past criminal record.

Papizewski says the seemingly random daytime attack is rare & very concerning.

Around 10am Monday, a man rang the doorbell of a home on Woburn Ave, near Avenue Rd & Lawrence.  1 of 2 women in the house answered & the man offered her a free newspaper.  When she refused, the man forced his way inside the house, pulled out a knife & sexually assaulted the women.  At some point, the man was stabbed in the stomach & he took off running from the house.

Detective Sergeant Papizewski says images captured by home safety systems & a TTC bus were key to Hejazi turning himself in.

Hejazi will be in bail court Thursday morning.

Toronto Police Constable Tony Vella says there are some things you can do at home to prevent a similar attack.

He says it's important to remember you aren't obligated to open your door if someone comes knocking.  Vella says if you feel uncomfortable, don't open it.

If you have a screen door, Vella says you could also use that to keep something between you & the person knocking.
