Poll: Chow Would Defeat Ford in Mayoral Race

Posted By: Michelle Rosa · 11/20/2012 6:11:00 AM

It's still two years out and very hypothetical, but Forum Research did some robo-polling  for the Star on the weekend about the next mayoral race.

It found that NDP MP Olivia Chow would narrowly defeat Mayor Rob Ford for mayor and Councillor Adam Vaughan would run a distant third. 40 percent of those asked would vote for Chow, 35 percent chose Rob Ford, 13 percent would throw their support behind Vaughan and 12 percent didn't know who they would vote for.

The last time Forum asked this question was in June and since then Chow has gained momentum. Pollster Lorne Bozinoff says Chow does well in the old city of Toronto but she also does well in the suburbs. It was only in North York that the Rob Ford got very strong support.

Chow has not ruled out a run for mayor, nor has Adam Vaughan but both have been basically saying it's too soon to make decisions.

Some 848 Torontonians were surveyed last Friday and Saturday.

At this point a road cone would beat and should beat Rob Ford for mayor.

if she wins Toronto will witness a fiscal cliff the likes of we've never seen before.

Don't you love the way she lived in PUBLIC housing when she was last a city councillor? She only left because of the media embarrassment. We should never forget that as it demonstrates her character.

@proton As one who could not stand the "Jack and Olivia show" while it toured the city for far too long, it pisses me off when people re-write history with the 'public housing' story.

The fact of the matter was that they were living in a building that was designed to house a variety of income levels AND they were paying market rent with no subsidy. The whole point of the building was to NOT be a ghetto where everyone was on assistance. They moved out because they did not have the skill to communicate that truth and their need for easy publicity could not take the hard work that was involved with getting the publicity they wanted out of it.

There are many damn good reasons to criticise Jack and Olivia, but the housing was not one of them.

Everyone seems to have forgotten about how her and JAck were licving in Public Housing an paying next to nothing for their downtown apartment. I have never understood why they and the public believe they are the champions of the poor and downtrodden, they found a platform (albeit a phony one) and ran with it. People have also forgotten how Jack was found nude in the "massage parlor". Please folks don't fall for her malarkey, she will ruin Toronto! I can almost see Adam Vaughan and the rest of his little posse salivating now.

If Chow is elected Mayor I am selling my home and moving my company from this city.

@Sean Considering the number of times the provincial liberals were elected despite MASSIVE mis-management, and the likelihood they'll be re-elected despite even more mis-management since the last election (a convict could be liberal leader and they'd still get elected), you may have to try another province

The biggest thing that counts is how many candidates from each position(left, right or center) are running. It's how the vote gets divided most times that determines who the winner is in any election!!

Of course Olivia would win ... but the Toronto citizenry wouldn't.
