VIDEO: A Green Button to Save You Money on Electricity

Posted By: Katie Franzios · 11/21/2012 12:03:00 PM

Reducing energy consumption.

That's the goal with a new province-wide initiative called Ontario Green Button. The energy minister says it's digital technology that would let you track how much energy you're using at any time of day, wherever you are.

Not only will you be able to check your usage through your smartphone or computer but Chris Bentley says you'll be able to do a few things that sound a little futuristic like turn off your air conditioning or adjust your home's temperature while you're at work.

President and CEO of Toronto Hydro Anthony Haines says they've been using tech-tools to track consumption so their team will help out in development.

There's still no timeline as to when this will be released or how much it will affect consumption/conservation.

As for cost, Bentley says there's no pricetag yet but reveals developers may charge for the apps.

too bad there isn't technology to prevent the gov't from wasting tax dollars thereby forcing extra taxes because of their wastefulness, eg. power plants, wasteful green energy, etc.

What nonsense. My utility here in Mississauga years ago provided me with a thermostat that allows them to turn off my ac during heavy usage periods and allows ME, from anywhere in the world to adjust the temp in my home. All this B.S. is intended to cover up for the governments gross waste and their plans to allow FOR PROFIT generators into the province. Except for the techno Morons no citizen who works for a living has the time to go on line to save a few pennies.

Just another thought. An election is coming !! Nothing any politician says or does during this period will be credible. Best bet is to ignore them all.
