VIDEO: A Green Button to Save You Money on Electricity
Reducing energy consumption.
That's the goal with a new province-wide initiative called Ontario Green Button. The energy minister says it's digital technology that would let you track how much energy you're using at any time of day, wherever you are.
Not only will you be able to check your usage through your smartphone or computer but Chris Bentley says you'll be able to do a few things that sound a little futuristic like turn off your air conditioning or adjust your home's temperature while you're at work.
President and CEO of Toronto Hydro Anthony Haines says they've been using tech-tools to track consumption so their team will help out in development.
There's still no timeline as to when this will be released or how much it will affect consumption/conservation.
As for cost, Bentley says there's no pricetag yet but reveals developers may charge for the apps.
