As Canadians we love our universal health care.  The monarchy? Not so much.

A new national poll commissioned by Montreal-based Association for Canadian Studies looked at the pride Canadians haven in more than a dozen symbols, achievements & traits.

The online survey of 2,200 respondents by Leger Marketing found universal health care was almost universally loved, with 94% calling it an important source of collective pride, including 74% who called it very important.

Canada's reputation in the world came 2nd, the Charter of Rights & Freedoms came 3rd, & Canada's economic performance pulled in 4th--all clocking 90% or better in terms of importance.

At the other end of the spectrum, just 39% of respondents felt the monarchy was a source of personal or collective pride, while 59% felt it wasn't very or not at all important.
