Torontonians weigh in: Rob Ford guilty or not of conflict of interest?

Posted By: Siobhan Morris · 11/26/2012 12:05:00 AM

It's decision day for Rob Ford.

The judge in the mayor's conflict of interest case will make his ruling at 10am Monday.

But if it were up to the people of Toronto, what would the verdict be?

The answer depends on where in the city you go.  Newstalk 1010's Siobhan Morris found most people she talked to at Yonge & Carlton had followed the case closely & thought Rob Ford was guilty.

Outside an Etobicoke grocery store, most people didn't seem especially aware of the case.  Some even admitted to tuning out any scandal involving the mayor.  One man who did follow the case closely insists the mayor did nothing wrong.

If Charles Hackland decides Rob Ford did break the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act, Ford could ultimately be kicked out office.

So who would Torontonians like to replace Ford as mayor if that happens?

Every person stopped at Yonge & Carlton dropped Toronto MP Olivia Chow's name.  Councillors Adam Vaughan & Kristyn Wong-Tam were also mentioned.  In Etobicoke, Doug Ford & ex-mayor David Miller were floated as candidates to replace Rob Ford.

    Wow !!!!!!

But I thought we are going after The Liberals for breaking the law, I thought we are against Smitherman for a waste in E health? But I thought this law was put on books by the province to curb municipal politicians so that powerful as they are, for they are powerful people trust me, they cannot use their offices for personal gains? A full commission of inquiry was set up and it made a recommendation to write this law it never dropped from heaven, but from commission of inquiry that you all aged on. Why no one ever stood up to oppose it ever since?

But I get very concerned about CFRB and Jerry Agar my dear friend for they have failed to serve society. I listen to this station for many many years and I have never seen it going this low. As much as every intelligent person knew that the Mayor broke the law, Jerry Agar defined it as a non-issue and as how a judge can never find fault and he can never boot the mayor. That was the stand of Jerry Agar as late as this morning. He was making those thinking the mayor can be found guilty look stupid. And this is a great lesson to all politicians in Municipal offices for the laws are coming after you. Some of us are simply tired of the nonsense and entitlements and bullying. You get a case like Sherbourne street that has about 5 churches with no parking, 2 funeral homes, a massive library and huge skating center on Queen and Sherbourne and you use it as carb bicycle protection. Sherbourne has a single largest dwelling complex block in the entire country and you deny all people a right to park for you have used the street for experimentation for the dwellers are all poor and they do not matter. When a bus stops on this street everybody stops, you cannot park a truck to load if you are moving. Would Jerry Agar allow that on his street? No for he is not poor and that is what Rob Ford does. Attack those with little incomes, you know a TCHC building must never have a television? Yea.

Then I get this reasoning of Christie Blatchford that borders on sheer stupidity. The man was voted by a massive number of Torontonians so a judge who is not elected cannot remove him from office. Really? So now Obama can go and murder someone and we cannot charge him? Well he is the first black president he got a massive second reelection numbers and he won precisely, suppose he breaks a law I guess we respect the electorate. Gees man some of the reasoning I have listened to is simply pathetic. The law was broken, and what the Mayor is trying to do today is to continue being a bully and trust me he is going to lose. On the statements he has made today, of going after the judge and use name calling, he is going to lose the appeal as well. It baffles me that to him every one is wrong, the judge is political and CFRB is following the tow. No as intelligent people we reach a point and we say a judge has made a judgment, we will appeal it, but we never ever go after him and call him politically motivated. And trust me I have read the entire judgment and if it fails to make sense to Christie Blatchford , Boo Hoo !!!! It is the system and some of us believe into it.

And there is this threat of let us get a reelection and Ford stands. God on this one I wish he stands. Let a reelection be called and Ford stands, he will be thrown out faster that he believes for some of us are simply too tired of his being a play boy. We need a mayor and a sensible mayor. It is that electoral entitlement John Torry kept on believing to a point that today he can never win any political post in this province. And I challenge him to stand anywhere for we will go after him again and again. You cannot call people stupid, get a section of society and alienate it and think you will survive for votes actually work. Mayor Ford needs to stand in a reelection then he will realize that bullying does not work in 2012. Trust me Mitt Romney would be the leader of United States today.

Does anyone know the date of the liable case judgment? Just asking as they are all lining up on him !!!!! Geez

@EM What the hell are you trying to say? I don't know if you are poor, rich or whatever but you need to stop trying to write a novel when you could have delivered the same drivel in 1 paragraph. I had to finish reading your comments because it was like seeing a train wreck, I couldn't turn away.
