VIDEO: Ford Says 'Sorry'

Posted By: Newstalk 1010 · 11/27/2012 6:28:00 PM

The following is a statement read by Mayor Rob Ford at City Hall on Tuesday.

Good afternoon everyone.

I was elected two years ago by the people of Toronto to do a job.  We have accomplished a lot in the past two years.  But, that job isn't finished yet.

I respect the Court's decision that was released yesterday.  My decision to appeal is not a criticism of the Court.  But, I feel it is important to work through the appeal system so I can continue to do the work I was elected to do.

This entire matter began because I love to help kids play football.  When this came to Council for the vote in question, I felt it was important to answer the accusations

that had been made against me.  I was focused on raising money to help underprivileged youth.

I never believed there was a conflict of interest because I had nothing to gain.  And, the City had nothing to lose.

But, I respect the court's decision.  Looking back, maybe I could have expressed myself in a different way.  To everyone who believes I should have done this differently – I sincerely apologize.

The people elected me to bring respect for taxpayers back to City Hall, and I will keep working to do exactly that for as long as I can – or, until the people elect someone else to do the job.

Thank you.  Unfortunately, that is all I can say at this time.

Rob Ford is a great guy and he has been horribly maligned and punished to heavily for his "horrific crime". I know that there will be people commenting her in a negative way about Mr. Ford's apologies. I just want to say in advance "Give your heads a shake" and please keep your eyes and ears open to the rest of the left wing councillors who did everything in their power to oust Mr. Ford. The witch hunt was disgraceful and I can't wait for one of them to be caught in their only lies/corruption because, believe me, they will.

@barb I agree that this is not a horrific crime. I do not support Ford, but he has been severly punished for his error - overtly so. I hope he appeals.

However, I have to say, that if you blame "the left" for Mr. Ford's error - give your own head a shake! It was Ford who did not read the rulebooks provided by staff (nor has he read any policy documents provided by staff over the last 12 years he has been at City Hall). Ford screwed up and he has only himself to blame. Even the judge's decision makes note of this, suggesting his actions amount to willful blindness. This is a characteristic common to the "good guy" you speak of. I'm sure his heart is in the right place, but his head has never been there which speaks volumes about his policy directions.

We need a mayor who has good intentions, but is also far more intelligent than you or I.

The "left wing councillors" who did this to Rob Ford don't exist.

The deed was done by a judge who was appointed by that notorious lefty Stephen Harper. The judge was so appalled by Rob Fords sense of entitlement and the disrespect for the law he exhibited in court that he gave him the boot.

So yes, give your head a shake.

@Julian Okay Julian, just the responses I expected. Can't wait for "mayor Vaughan" or better yet. "Mayor Olivia (I miss Jack) Chow" to break the city! And Justin, excellent response!, High fives to each other.

If Ford is so sorry, he should pay back the $3000 and accept the judges ruling. Not blamer others for his self created problems.

The only thing Ford is sorry for is that he got in trouble.

@Justin Flontek And Who did they want him to pay anyways? Pay another 3,000 to the charity on top of what he raised? Or to those companies and people that donated? Or 3,000 dollars to the Cities greedy counselors?!?

And how can you pay "Back" something You never personally got? We are talking about money raised for charity here, nothing of it went to him or came out of the city til on behalf of him.

Mayor Rob Ford, brought down for raising money for charity! How dare he! I’m glad they found a way to have him fired for it.

And who did they want him to pay money anyways? Pay another 3,000 to the charity on top of what he raised? Pay those companies and people that donated? Or 3,000 dollars to the Cities greedy counselors for their great work in wasting our money.

Are these "poor kids" he is helping the same ones he (or the police?) had to call a TTC bus for, kicking the passengers off, to prevent them from rumbling??

The one thing we can all agree on is that Rob will never be Fordgotten.
