"Ridiculousness of our politics" affecting Toronto image: business leader

At least one Toronto business leader says he's frustrated with what's happening at city hall right now.

Nick Di Donato, president & CEO of the Liberty Entertainment Group, says politics affect business and investment in our city. And he says the severity of the consequences that mayor Rob Ford is facing is affecting our image.

"It's not what the mayor's done, it's about how far we've gone to try to take the mayor out of his position, the magnitude of the punishment for the situation" he says.

Asked whether he thinks it could scare off investors, Di Donato said, "Well, scare off in terms of the ridiculousness of our politics."

Di Donato says councillors have to start working together and put what's best for the city ahead of divisive politics.

He was one of the business leaders who joined mayor Rob Ford on a trip to Chicago in September to build partnerships. He says the trip was beneficial for the city and for himself personally.

"I've done some business as a result, from the people I met down in Chicago," Di Donato says. "It was quite a substantial learning experience for me."

And he says a trip like the one to Chicago was "tremendously important."

"We need our councillors and others in the city to get out and see what other cities are doing in order to understand how we can grow and how you can be a better city," he says.
