High School Teachers Break Off Talks

Posted By: Dave Bradley · 11/29/2012 11:20:00 AM

The union representing Ontario's public high school teachers says it's suspended all talks with school boards until
further notice.

The Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation says it's making the move because the government refused to give approval to a number of locally bargained deals.

The union says the Ministry of Education decided the tentative agreements weren't ``substantively identical'' to a deal the
province signed with English Catholic teachers this summer.

That agreement froze the wages of most teachers and cut benefits, such as stopping the banking of sick days to be cashed out at retirement.

The union says it's also due to the rejection of tentative agreements by teachers in York Region and Niagara earlier this week.

It says the ratification vote of an agreement reached at Hamilton-Wentworth School Board will proceed on Friday, but all
other scheduled votes have been put off until after Monday.

    Let them go on strike

then use the power of C115 to force them back to work. If they dont go - fire every one of them that does not report to work.

You just cant deal with whiners so get rid of them.

@Ernie I know, it real does get tiring reading about and trying understand where these unbelievably selfish whiners with the huge sense of entitlement are coming from. Get with the program Teachers, nobody gives a sh$t what you want anymore. You have enough and there is no more to give and nor do you deserve more.

    Note to teachers:
Didn't you know that you cant get blood out of a stone? You cant borrow money from the bank if the banker has cut off your credit because you spend to much.

Reality check time! Welcom to Ontario Canada where 300,000 people in the manufacturing sector alone in south western ontario lost their $25 / hour jobs over the last 3 years and now barely make $12 / hour. What makes you so special?
