Strike Situation 'Regrettable': ETFO
He calls the situation regrettable, but the head of the province's public elementary teachers' union underlines their hands are tied when it comes to strike action.
Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) head Sam Hammond spoke to John Tory today.
Hammond says because the legislated contract framework (Bill 115) gives a deadline of December 31st for locally bargained contracts, they have no other choice than to up the pressure before Christmas.
The ETFO head says he would be willing to meet with the education minister to try and resolve this.
In the meantime, he says won't presume what the minister might do if there is some sort of strike action but underlines he hopes both sides enter meaningful discissisions to move forward.
