Dog found tortured, dead in Mississauga park

Posted By: Siobhan Morris · 11/30/2012 5:41:00 PM

Peel Police are calling it an extraordinarily disturbing case.

The body of young dog was found Friday morning in Deerwood Park in Mississauga.  The gruesome discovery was made by a woman out walking her own pooch.

Police say it's clear the animal was the victim of malicious act.

Constable Fiona Thivierge couldn't say exactly what kind of injuries the dog had suffered, only that it had been tortured.  Asked if the dog had been burned or beaten Thivierge said "something along those lines".

The torture was so bad, police & the SPCA aren't sure what kind of dog they're dealing with.  They think it could be a miniature pinscher or something similar.  It's black with brown markings.

Thivierge says police & the SPCA are trying to track down the dog's owner.  It had no collar &  wasn't micro-chipped as far as they can tell.

The dog's body has been sent for autopsy & forensic testing.

Thivierge says Peel Police don't have reason to believe that the person behind the attack on the dog would move on to human victims.

If you have any information on who might own the dog or what happened to it, call Peel Police at 905-453-2121 x1122 or contact  Crime Stoppers.

better find the POS that did this and better find him quick.....he will be the next major serial killer/rapist.....mark my words!!!

@jleigh I'd like to know how the cops can make a staement as such that they're not worried about this person moving on to hurting people when they don't know who the sick SOB is yet. Doesn't that take some evaluation to draw a conclusion like that? ZERO TOLLERENCY FOR ANIMAL ABUSE or your going to end up with a bunch of vigilante animal rights people taking care of it.It has to stop! Mandatory 5 year prison term and 50,000 fine. That would make any creep think twice before harming an animal.

This pos probably has already killed a human and hasn't been found out yet. These police are pretty nieve thinking that he's not dangerous. It starts with animals and humans are next.

If they don't start taking animal cruelty and abuse as seriously as it is they WILL have vigilante Justice and a lot of people aren't going to wait much longer!

@Laura Washburn Laura, I share your frustration, as I'm sure countless other do as well. The ONLY way to improve animal welfare legislation, enforcement and conviction rates is to DEMAND it of our politicians. It's great that people want change, but unless we ALL make that very clear to those with the power to bring it about, it will continue to fly below the radar of most politicians and policy makers. PLEASE, take a moment to document your outrage and send it on to your MPP, as well as the offices of the Premier.

"Thivierge says Peel Police don't have reason to believe that the person behind the attack on the dog would move on to human victims." Seriously? Who the hell is Thivierge to make such an ignorant statement?

The FBI has recognized the connection between animal abuse and acts of violence committed against humans....But, Thivierge doesn't think this sick POS will fall into that category? Can we know why?? Just a hunch? Has Thivierge tortured a puppy before and not moved on to the next step.. yet?

Pure ignorance. That is the problem with the laws and protecting animals. Lets just wait till this sick POS does something horrible to a humane before we make a move. In fact, lets not even utilize the laws we have.. we won't even give them the max fine... why would we ever actually do that??? So frustrating!

I hope whoever did this finds the same fate this poor innocent puppy found. RIP Puppy!!

So the Peel police do not think that a animal killer could not go onto torturing or killing humans - think back to how serial killers started - in UK Mary Bell who killed a child started on torturing cats - Ian Brady and others started on animals - Think again Peel Police and find this killer!!

@Crissie Chambers The police need to go after this monster with every resource they have. This monster tortured and killed a helpless animal while, I am sure, enjoying it. He will go on to humans, It has to be stopped and this monster needs to be punished as harshly as possible. It breaks my heart to think of this poor creature being tortured and the probability of more to come before it is a human's turn.

There is most certainly always a reason to believe that someone that will torture an animal will certainly move on to a human at some point. Open your damn eyes Mississuaga police.

@Diane The posts that state this person will move on are right and resarch shows the appetite for cruelty is like any other. It increases and is only satisfied with more and more challenging victims,
As a society we react to this event but we don't carry through to make the laws stronger. All vulnerable beings need protection. As yet they do not have it.
Discussion on shows such as NT 1010 raise awareness.
Jerry needs to repeat an animal cruelty show based on this - The show about the sled dogs produced some shocking responses and ignorance and apathy of cruelty and the laws around such acts.
Animals, children , homeless, elderly - all potental victims for these psychopathic cowards. Think about it!

How very cruel to do this to a defenseless little creature ... What is next, a child or an elderly person? If it was your own pet and you could not deal with and/or simply did not want it, why not give it away to someone who could? From what has been reported, it appears your cruelty was extremely vicious. Obviously you are sick and need help ... Get it for your own sake. Report to the police because if you are sick, our courts may direct you to an appropriate program. If you are just a cruel bastard, God have mercy.
    1. Barb posted on 12/02/2012 01:13 PM
@Charles I'll go with cruel , evil bastard, because If he /she is caught an insanity plea will certainly be used. Definitely this monster is insane, but enjoys what he/ she does, torturing helpless creatures and he/ she deserves no mercy. The thoughts of what this poor little guy went through, wondering why anyone would do this to him, breaks my heart. He/ we need justice for this and this person needs to be locked up forever so he can never hurt any living, breathing creature ever again.

What was done to this dog was horrible and it's great that the police are investigating, but what about the thousands of animals (pigs, cows, chickens, etc.) that are killed for human consumption every single day? Why is legal to torture them, but illegal if the same is done to dogs and cats? There need to be laws in place to protect ALL ANIMALS, not just some.
    1. Barb posted on 12/03/2012 11:00 PM
@Kaitlen Kaitlyn, everyone on this forum are animal lovers, but please don't take way from the fact that this little puppy was horribly tortured and burned beyond belief. The police weren't even able to identify the breed. Don't us this blog as your forum for your rants on people who eat meat. it doesn't belong here and it demeans the gravity of what happened to this little puppy, by someone who took him, tortured him and beat him for their own amusement. Yo aren't going to find many people who are going to want to get into that debate with you here. We, are all animal lovers but this forum is about the puppy who was tortured to the point of making a cop cry.

I'm flabbergasted by police claiming they "don't have reason to believe that the person behind the attack on on the dog would move on to human victims". WATCH DEXTER!!

I am as shocked as others here about the comment that the police don't have reason to believe that the person behind the attack on the dog would move on to human victims. Perhaps they know who this person is, but they should not be fooled despite the fact it may even be a child. There is a clearly established link between animal cruelty and violence toward humans. We have a petition to strengthen and enforce animal cruelty legislation that is being presented by two MPs in the House of Commons. If you would like to help with this initiative, please go to the link below, download a petition form, get 25 signatures, and send it to Ottawa, no postage required. The petition is memory of Captain, a dog who was beaten and left in a dumpster in Vancouver, but requests changes to legislation that will hopefully benefit all animals.

@Justice for Captain and other abused animals Thanks for the very important info. I will definitley sign the petition and I vow to do what I can in other ways. I am so angry and upset about this poor litlle, Captain, the abused cat who has been in the news and all animals. They are precious and laws need to be changed and punishments mad much more severe. For all the abused and love animals out there past and unfortunately present, Rest in Peace. You are loved and grieved by many.

"Thivierge says Peel Police don't have reason to believe that the person behind the attack on the dog would move on to human victims."

Then clearly he and the rest of the police are delusional, because the scientific links made between cruelty to animals and eventual escalation to humans are irrefutable. It may not happen tomorrow, but it will happen.

"Ted Bundy, David Berkowitz, and Jeffrey Dahmer, all are serial killers, and all have one thing in common, they began their careers by torturing and killing animals. In fact animal abuse has been linked to child abuse, domestic, violence, serial killings, and the recent uprising in murders by school age children." http://canada.myletsadopt.com/2011/01/28/the-link-between-serial-killers-and-animal-abuse/
