VIDEO: Hudak Outlines Plans For the LCBO

Posted By: Katie Franzios · 12/4/2012 11:59:00 AM

Booze at corner and grocery stores? It could happen if Tim Hudak was elected premier.

The Tory leader outlined his plans for alcohol in the province in front of the LCBO in Liberty Village.

Hudak says he wants what will keep raking in the dough for the province, all while not having to worry about paying public servants to do all the work.

As LCBO outlets across the province received their daily deliveries, Hudak revealed all options are on the table when it comes to a full or partial sale of the LCBO.

It's an idea shoppers can get behind, with some underlining since grocery and corner stores have different hours than the LCBO, it would be a convenient way to stock up for a last minute get togethers.

Hudak underlined he is not considering making any changes to alcohol taxes.

He says the province needs to treat people like adults, pointing to places like Quebec and New York as places that have more a diverse range of places to by alcohol.

Please enough of the cirus theatrics, Tim, its bad enough we in Toronto have two buffoons at City Hall. The Tea Party experiment was rejected recently and you are still clinging to threads of stupidity. Return to the real Progessive Conservative ideaology ala Bill Davis, or you will never come to power.

Government should not be in the retail/wholesale alcohol business when we also have laws on drunk driving and druken disorderly etc. The government could be seen as having a confilct of interest. Selling the alcohol and then blaming people for abusing it. If a bar is going to be held responsible to selling alcohol to someone that got into their car after having too much and had an accident, can the government be sued as well for playing a part in distribution of alcohol? Govenment should be a govening body and not a retailer. I don't care if the LCBO makes billions a year. In fact if the right taxes were in place the money could still come in the form of an alcohol tax or fee.

Despite of the best of intentions, political will not withstanding, the liquor control laws will not go away anytime soon. Despite campaign promises by Tim Hudak and his leadership challengers , there is no solid consensus as to how to proceed with such a 'wholesale' turnover of archaic blue laws that go back to the 1920's. Of you are taking about only the LCBO, why not include the Beer Stores and Brewewrs Warehousing.. It must be a total closing down of the entire system of distribution, promotion, and government gobbledigook, something that we will never get to see in two lifetimes. Really sad, but what other alternative do Ontarians have? Ziltch!!!
