AUDIO: Australian Radio Station Crank Calls Duchess' Hospital

Posted By: Newstalk 1010 · 12/5/2012 8:19:00 AM

The British hospital treating the former Kate Middleton admitted it was victimized by a crank call in which information on the Duchess of Cambridge's condition was given to a woman impersonating Queen Elizabeth II.

King Edward VII's hospital acknowledged Wednesday that an Australian radio station made a hoax call to the hospital in the early hours Tuesday. A woman using the often mimicked voice of the monarch asked after the Duchess' health, and was told that Kate, who is being treated for morning sickness, "hasn't had any retching with me and she's been sleeping on and off.''

The hospital says the conversation was held with one of the nursing staff. Its telephone protocols are being reviewed.

The Australian 2DayFM placed the recording of the conversation on its website.

The DJ's have sinced apologize saying that they thought they'd be hung up on.

I don't mean to sound insensitive but who commits suicide for something like this? My guess is the nurse had a a lot of other issues on her plate than just this silly hoax. I don't think the radio hosts deserve to be fired.

    Just my 2 cents.

@Joe No one knows what was going on in her private life, but whatever it was, being humiliated on the world stage didn 't help. More than likely she was berated by the management, colleagues, etc. and felt like she was going to lose her job, which she probably was, no matter what the PR at the hospital are saying. This prank was played over and over and over again and the humiliation and probably the feeling that she had let down the hospital and been fooled so badly was the catalyst. I don't know about you but when I feel embarrassed in front of a group of people for whatever reason it is not a great feeling. My heart goes out to her and her family and friends. As for the DJs who pulled the prank, not sure if I feel they should be fired, it wasn't malicious, but it sure was stupid. I didn't find it particularly funny in the first place. However, I am sure that these 2 people aren't in. Good place right now and I actually feel a little sorry for them. I would imagine that they are not ready to go back to radio or the media for awhile
