Teachers in Timmins & Stratford to Strike on Monday
Toronto students aren't affected yet, but as of Monday, elementary schools in the Timmins and Stratford areas will be closed, because teachers are on strike.
The Ontario North East District and the Avon Maitland school boards sent notices home with students about the walkout.
These will be the first of the rotating one-day strikes, that have been threatened by the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario. 46,000 of 76,000 had their say on whether they wanted strike action in a three-day online vote. 92 percent voted in favour.
Still no word from the province if they will intervene to stop the walkouts. If that's the case, the ETFO warns there will be a political day of protest.
Broten does have a news conference scheduled for 9:30 Thursday morning, possibly responding to these developments.
