Posted By: Suzette Francis · 12/6/2012 3:50:00 PM

A 47-year-old man has been charged after a fatal hit and run collision in Vaughan on Thursday morning.

Gino De Luca of Vaughan faces 3 charges, including Failing To Stop Causing Death.

York Regional Police were initially looking for a dark colored import vehicle after a female pedestrian was struck at the intersection of Dufferin St. and Apple Blossom Dr. at approximately 6:36 a.m.

Dufferin was closed between Rutherford Rd and Autumn Hill Blvd. while police investigated.

The victim, a 52-year old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police aren't identifying her until next of kin has been notified.

Cst. Andy Pattenden says De Luca turned himself in at 4 District Headquarters just after 9:00am.

Pattenden would not comment on whether speed or alcohol may have been factors in the crash.

The investigation is now in the hands of police collision experts.

Apple Blossom street is unregulated and dangeros to cross.
It needs clear speed limit signhs and traffic calming measures along with stops as well.

Throw the book at this person...I'd question if 1) distracted driving 2) alcohol and 3) other substances were involved. Were blood tests performed when Mr De Luca came in to admit the crime. Someone's wife and mother is dead because this person failed to pay attention. MAke an example.
