VIDEO: OMA Deal: What Will Change at Your GP
Annual check-ups will be tailored to each patient. That's just one of the changes you'll be feeling after the province negotiated a new deal with its doctors.
It was ratified over the weekend.
The two sides had been butting heads about how much money the province is pumping into what proceedures.
Health Minister Deb Matthews was all smiles when starting to speak about the deal, calling it a happy day. She underlined it took some creative bargaining to get a contract most doctors could approve of. But it also means you might not be getting a physical every year, or a different version than you're used to with fewer tests and a shorter examination.
Matthews says they had to alter some areas in order to pump money into other parts of the healthcare system.
The OMA deal is worth $11 billion each year. It adds $100 million to doctors' total compensation.
