Budget committee recommends fixing Gardiner and wants to look into selling it

The city's budget committee is recommending $505-million in funding over the next 10 years to fix up the Gardiner Expressway.

Budget Chief Mike Del Grande is sternly telling councillors, they need to vote the same way, when the opportunity arises.

City staff say the repairs are badly needed and admitted last week, that part of the road could be unusable if it isn't fixed within the next 6 years.

The budget will be debated by city councillors in January.

Committee members also approved a motion to look into selling or leasing the Gardiner and the DVP, as well as examine tolls for non-residents and a tunnel underneath the roadway.

The staff report on that is due in May.

This is another example of how hard it is to make a country that people feel safe in. Whether it be construction that needs to be completed to create a safe road, laws that need to be altered in regards to gun control or simple changes to the protection of prostitutes, it takes time. There is a process to these things and sometimes the process takes to long.

When Obama said his speech in regards to the children who were murdered you could see his frustration. We are all frustrated. Frustrated that these types of things happen. Frustrated that a roadway that should be safe to travel on is falling apart. Frustrated that despite the fact that these things need to be changed for the safety of everyone and done so quickly... the process does not change. Whether the news be about a mass shooting or a simple road fix it all leads to the same feeling: Frustration.

@Vanessa Vallozzi While any of us are not crazy about crumbling roadways and unsafe structures, with all due respect don't even compare it with what happened in Connecticut on Friday, it is an injustice to everybody. Yes, we are frustrated about certain things and the way our government handles them or delays them but a crumbling bridge is not even in the same league as the evil that took place on Friday.
