AUDIO: Shoppers hunt for Boxing Day deals

Posted By: James Moore · 12/26/2012 3:46:00 PM

There were so many shoppers at Yorkdale mall on Boxing Day that line-ups were not just outside the stores but cars were lined up all the way onto the 401 to get into the parking lot.

Despite shoppers' enthusiasm to spend, it seems retailers didn't slash prices as much as some might have hoped.

There were people who braved the dark and cold to line up hours ahead of stores that opened at 6:00am.  Many were lucky enough to get their hands on limited-quantity, 'door-crasher' sales.  However, most shoppers asked by NEWSTALK 1010 found that other Boxing Day discounts weren't much different than the deals to be had before Christmas.

Some bargain hunter say its because retailers are getting more aggressive before Boxing Day, slashing prices to keep shoppers from using a strong Canadian dollar in the United States.

Others blame the growing trend of online shopping, with many stores offering internet-only deals on Christmas Day that can be snapped up from home, while wearing your pyjamas.
