Christine Sinclair named female athlete of the year
Christine Sinclair is the runaway winner of the Bobbie Rosenfeld Award as the 2012 Canadian Press female athlete of the year.
The Canadian women's soccer star from Burnaby, B-C guided the national team to a bronze medal at the London Olympics.
Sinclair had a hat trick in a heart-breaking 4-3 extra-time semifinal loss to the United States and helped Canada to a 1-0 win over France in the third-place game. Sinclair scored an Olympic-record six goals to win the Golden Boot and set a national record by scoring 23 goals in 2012.
Sinclair was also Canada's flag-bearer at the closing ceremonies in London.
Trampolinist Rosie MacLennan was a distant second in balloting among sports editors and broadcasters from across the country. MacLennan won Canada's only gold medal at the Games.
Long-track speedskater Christine Nesbitt was third in the voting.
