Federal agency loses personal data
A big whoops from Human Resources & Skills Development Canada.
The department has lost personal information belonging to some 5,000 Canadians. The handle files including pensions & old age security.
The affected people are getting letters giving them the head's up, including steps to protect themselves.
HRSDC told the federal privacy commissioner's office about the loss earlier this month.
A spokeswoman for the privacy commissioner says it's too early to say if there will be a formal investigation, but they're working with the HRSDC to figure out what happened.
