NHL and players' union to hold conference call
The two sides in the NHL lockout plan to review a new
proposal from the league in a conference call today.
And there are tentative plans for a face-to-face meeting tomorrow
in New York.
Owners made the new proposal in an effort to end the lockout and
save the season.
The sides haven't met in person since a second round of talks
with a federal mediator broke down December 13th.
Time is running short as the N-H-L says it doesn't want a season
of less than 48 games.
A source tells The Canadian Press the deal is contingent on the
NHLPA signing off by January 11th.
Training camps would then open the next day and the season would
start January 19th.
