Parents of children enroled at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut are set to return to the scene of last month's mass shooting.

They will be there for an open house, picking up their child's backpack, coat and other belongings.

Those items were left behind in the chaos as a shooter opened fire, killing 20 Grade 1 students and 6 educators.

Desks that had been used by those students have been moved from Sandy Hook to a building in nearby Munroe, where students will resume the school year.

Their first day back in class is Thursday.
