TTC Driver Accused of Being Rude to Passenger

Posted By: David Woodard · 1/4/2013 4:24:00 AM

A TTC bus driver is being accused of being incredibly rude to a customer.

A woman claims she was boarding the 199 Finch Express at 6:30, Thursday morning with her 1-year-old son in tow.

He was in a stroller and the woman says she asked for the driver to lower the ramp to help her board the bus.

That's when the driver allegedly said "I don't want to have to deal with this kind of BS at 6:30 in the morning," and "where's his dad? He should be helping you.  If he even has a dad."

The TTC says they are investigating the allegations.

But seriously though; how is the investigation into the fare jumping going? For all I care he could have flicked a booger on the kid. There are a hundred people a day walking into finch station off the street and they're raising fares again- that's the concern with the TTC, the enormous waste of money that they represent to taxpayers. No 'investigation' required here, just send in a HR boobie to speak to this errant individual.

The driver is out of line if he did indeed say what the woman is reported to have heard him say. He needs to do more of what most of us do, and that is to keep our negative thoughts to ourself more often. Did he think she is so low in the pecking order that he didn't need to treat her with common decency and respect, because she's using public transit, has a stroller (a big honking limo stroller that will also handle the transport of bags of groceries?), and has what may be a mixed-race kid? I don't excuse what he said, it was very hurtful and makes him seem like a baffoon, but I can't imagine working as a bus driver and having to deal with all of humanity on a daily basis, with all that entails. Walk a mile in his shoes first.

wow - THIS is news? you EXPECT such attitude with Metro Rail employees in Washington. if this is what makes for a big story, then torontonians don't know how good they have it.

So...where's Local 113 and Kinnear on this? Operators have gotten the blessing of the Union not to haul some of these strollers, for the operator's health and safety (blow out the elbow joint!) that are often larger than the mobile wheelchairs that should be issued lisence plates...or tie a ballon, and they'll be mistaken for the Hindenburg...some of these folks obstruct ANY passenger movement as they are bottlenecked beside the operator....
Perhaps we follow the folks in Hamilton, where the Hamilton Street Railway wheels strollers and wheelchairs in from the rear door....
15 Minutes of fame...BS at 6:30 AM, INDEED!
