Charges laid in hit & run that killed 7-year-old boy
Charges have been laid in the death of Jacoub Favila, the 7-year-old killed in a hit & run on the 401 in Mississauga New Year's Day.
30-year-old Jose Renteria is charged with dangerous driving & criminal negligence causing death, plus failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
OPP Sergeant Dave Woodford says police caught up with Renteria on the 401 in Cobourg Friday night.
On the afternoon of New Year's Day, the Favila family's minivan was rear-ended by a Hummer on westbound Hwy 401 near Dixie Rd. The Hummer took off & was later found abandoned on Dixie.
There were 8 people in the van--Jacoub, his mom & dad & 5 kids, one of them his twin brother.
Jacoub was sitting in the back passenger side of the van. He was rushed from the crash scene to hospital, but he couldn't be saved. No one else in the van was badly hurt.
Jacoub's funeral is set for Friday at Highland Funeral Home in Scarborough.
