VIDEO: ETFO cancels protest following ruling from Labour Board

Posted By: Newstalk 1010 · 1/11/2013 4:32:00 AM

It was just before 4 a.m. on Friday that the Labour Relations Board of Ontario announced any protest staged by public elementary school teachers would be illegal and shortly afterwards, the ETFO responded.

President of the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario, Sam Hammond posted a statement on the union's website that reads:

"A Message for Members

The Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) has ruled that the Political Protest scheduled to take place on January 11, 2013 violates the Ontario Labour Relations Act (OLRA).

We will abide by the decision of the OLRB. We respect the provisions of the Act - something we have requested the Minister and government to do for almost a year.

Monitor your school board website to determine if your school will be open for teachers, DECE, ESP, and PSP members.

If your school is open to staff you are required to report to your school or worksite on Friday morning."

Toooooo late. This morning I stopped in to a shoppers' drug mart, and there were two cashiers with their children. Good job union boss, helping out the little guys.

the union is 100% responsible for this debacle. Had they picked a date further away, allowing for the labour board to have time to rule, this mess wouldn't have ensued.

If there's a way to fine them it should be pursued vigorously.

Yes, and if there is a way of de-certifying them, that should vigorously pursued as well. Sam Hammond should be tossed out on his ear.

Where are the educated people running these teachers unions? One must truly wonder how these teachers can educate our children when they make these decisions! The optics are very bad for the teachers..they should truly go back to their jobs and let the courts make their determination, I am sure they will win in court but they are loosing in the public arena!!
