Bus passenger gang raped in India
Another troubling story of gang rape in India & again, this one started with a bus.
Police say a 29-year-old woman was the only passenger on a bus Friday night as she travelled to her village in northern Punjab state. But instead of taking her home, the driver too her to an empty building in a remote location.
There, the driver & conductor were joined by 5 friends. The group took turns raping the woman through the night. Early Saturday, the bus driver dropped the victim off at her village.
Police have arrested 6 suspects, all have admitted to being involved. Police are still looking for another man. The victim is recovering at home.
This comes 4 weeks after a 23-year-old woman was gang raped & killed on a moving bus in the Indian capital. The attack on Jyoti Singh Pandey sparked global protests & calls for tougher rape laws in India.
Also on Saturday, police arrested a man for allegedly raping & killing a 9-year-old girl 2 weeks ago in western India. Her decomposing body was found Friday.
Police say the accused committed the crime 7 months after serving nine years for raping & murdering a girl in 2003.
