VIDEO: Human skull found in Vaughan
Police in Vaughan are spending the day searching through about five acres of land near a country club, looking for body parts.
On Sunday afternoon, a person out for a walk found a skull in a wooded area on the outskirts of the Uplands Golf and Ski Country Club, near Hwy 407 and Yonge St.
York Regional Police have confirmed the skull belongs to a human, but the forensic identification unit is still trying to determine whether the skull is male or female.
Det Sgt John Braybrook with the Homicide Unit says a search and rescue team is now trying to find the rest of the body. He says the search will likely take several days because the area has many bushes and hills.
Part of the wooded area that police are searching is adjacent to Callaway Ct, a short street of million-dollar homes.
One of the homeowners tells Newstalk 1010 that there are trails in the wooded area where locals take their dogs for walks.
"I've been here about 5 years. The area's a very quiet, nice neighbourhood," the homeowner says.
The case is being considered suspicious. Det Sgt Braybrook says there is no evidenced at this time that points to a homicide.
