SIU Close Case of Tyrone Phillips... Again.

Posted By: Dave Bradley · 1/14/2013 1:04:00 PM

There won't be any charges for any Police Officers in the arrest of Tyrone Phillips.

The Province's Special Investigations Unit released that statement Monday afternoon.

Why is it so special?

This is the case that sparked a war of words between the SIU and the Toronto Police, after the SIU claimed the police wouldn't hand over the original statement by Phillips.

But since Phillips made that statement to the Office of the Independent Review Director, Toronto Cops said it wasn't theirs to hand over to the SIU.

Phillips then personally gave the original statement back to the SIU, who re-opened the investigation.

He'd claimed he was beaten so badly during his arrest in July of 2012, that he was knocked unconscious.

The SIU says they can't confirm who knocked Phillips to the ground during his arrest, suggesting it could have been a security guard, means the case is closed.
