Video: 8 TTC Workers Fired 5 Charged

Posted By: Newstalk 1010 · 1/15/2013 9:02:00 PM

Eight Toronto Transit Commission enforcement officers have been fired, and five are facing criminal charges following a
four-month investigation.

The TTC alleges five officers submitted false tickets made out to people of no fixed address for offences including panhandling,
loitering and trespassing.

However, those tickets were never served, and the TTC alleges the officers were not at the locations where the falsified tickets were supposed to have been issued.

Fines were never collected, and the commission says the tickets are being cancelled.

The five officers are each charged with attempting to obstruct justice and fabricating evidence.

TTC Chair Karen Stintz says there's a dollar value attached to this in that the TTC was paying people to go to work, and they weren't going to work.

Charged is 44 year old Michael Schmidt from Barrie, 45 year old Tony Catic of Oakville, 44 year old John Psthumus of Toronto, 48 year old Jamie Greenbank from Milton and 38 year old Neil Malik from Ajax.

perhaps they could have been sleeping on the job while folks easily walk into stations without any concern for paying fares

here is what i don't get...only 1 in 5 of the TTC workers charged lives in Toronto: why is the city paying atrociously high salaries to so many workers who live outside of Toronto and won't be contributing any property tax money our way?

@Torontonian 1. Toronto residents pay the lowest property tax rate than any other citizen in this country
      2. all of these individuals charges are in the GTA...being part of the GTA means that they have some of the highest property tax rates in all of the country, they pay higher vehicle insurance than anyone else

Stop whinning... if just one of your city councils had the balls to say..."lets all pay the same tax rates as the rest of the GTA" your city would not have any financial issues... but you're all little greedy.... what can the government do for me but I'm not doing a damn thing for anyone else...Cause It's my f'ing right

Funny... When are people gonna wake up and realize what a huge waste of money that whole department is?
Check the sunshine list folks... I bet everyone of those fraudsters are on it.
They each make over $100,000 per year for what? For this?

This is just one of those departments at the TTC that are unecessary and are over paid.
When is someone with balls going to look into the other corruption that exists?

Every employee in that "Security Department " makes 100,000 plus benefits...
Security??? $100,000 a year???? good go....

Where are our tax dollars going Mr. Ford? Look no further...

The whole thing is a joke....

    But it will never change...

Stintz should be fired too. She took $5000 of ridership money to pay for lessons on how to talk to the media. Looks like another witch hunt scapegoat kinda thing to me.
All 40 of them should be fired. Why only eight? If those 8 were doing it, so were the rest of them. Ttc CEOs trying to cover their "tracks", lol.

I'd love to hear about an investigation of the maintenance dept. Sibling of a friend claimed on his first day on the job he was physically threatened at end of his shift because he dared to work efficiently, thereby making other workers look bad, rather than work at about 25% efficiency.

Imagine how much money would be available for subway.

Don't expect anyone to have the guts to tackle that one

Looks like we'll have to spend even more money trying these parasites and then paying for them to go to jail run by unionized guards. Keeping a single person in a federal prison in Canada costs around $113 K per year.

This is really no surprise whatsoever. The TTC is a completely unprofessional organization full of overpaid, under-educated, lazy, hostile employees who have a sense of entitlement. They can never be fired no matter how inept because they union will protect them. Looks like they took it too far this time though. Tough to sweep not showing up for work under the rug when the real cops have you dead to rights.

These morons say they need more money or they will have to cut services? Why should the citizens of Toronto fork over more money to an organization with a track record like this? An organization inept enough to not notice that it's employees don't show up to work definitely shouldn't be asking for a raise.

Only in a "union" environment like the TTC could this happen. The sense of entitlement, corruption, and greed is so typical of these disgusting leftist union hog pigs. Their children should be ashamed of these scum-balls. They should all end up in prison for their deliberate and planned extortion. Every effort should be made to get every penny back into the coffers.

And to think - these are the same scum that vote liberal and support teachers.
