TDSB trustees choose acting director, if she accepts
Trustees at the TDSB have chosen an acting director of education.
Donna Quan is being asked to fill the role for an unknown length of time. She still has to accept and sign a contract.
As for when a search for a permanent director will begin, chair Chris Bolton says that is still a point of discussion.
Last week, Chris Spence resigned as director of education after admitting to plagiarism. Quan was the deputy director.
She has 30 years of education experience and has been with the TDSB since 1985.
Bolton says trustees decided that Quan is the right person for the job at this time.
"People felt that Donna Quan represented the characteristics and the attributes that are consistent with the TDSB," Bolton says.
It took nine hours over two days, behind closed doors, for trustees to come to the decision to choose an acting director and not start a search for a permanent director right away.
Bolton says there was "pretty much a consensus" but not complete agreement among trustees.
One trustee, Sam Sotiropoulos, stormed out after the meeting saying, "For the record, I voted against receiving this report."
Sotiropoulos later tweeted, " 'Compromise' is among the dirtiest words in the English language. I wonder how many #TDSB parents compromise on educating their children."
