30+ car chain reaction crash north of Barrie
High winds, blowing snow & drivers just going too fast are being blamed for a massive chain-reaction crash north of Barrie.
OPP say more than 30 cars were involved in the smashup in northbound lanes of Hwy 11. It forced police to close northbound lanes of the highway between County Rd 93 & Line 2 of Oro-Medonte for much of Sunday. The lanes were re-opened just before 4pm.
OPP Constable George Silvestri says there were temporary white out conditions & roads were slippery when the series of crashes started.
Amanda Cupido, Producer of The Jerry Agar Show on Newstalk 1010 passed the mess as she headed southbound. Cupido describes cars stopping to help others that had veered into ditches, which created fresh obstacles for drivers.
Silvestri says the chain reaction crash could have been avoided had drivers slowed down & given themselves more room to stop.
