Toronto Police search for stolen World Junior Hockey medal
Toronto Police are trying to track down a stolen medal that was awarded to a member of Canada's silver-winning squad at the 2003 World Junior Hockey Championship in Halifax.
Authorities say it was taken during a break-in at a home in the Bloor Street and South Kingsway area in mid-December.
Jewellery and other valuables were stolen but the owner did not realise the medal was missing until a few weeks later.
Police are keeping the owner's identity a secret.
While it is not clear whether that person is a player on that team, a family member, or perhaps a member of the coaching staff, it is worthy to note that Team Canada's 2003 squad has many connections to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Forwards Joffrey Lupul and Jay McClement are current Leafs.
Other players who played in Toronto after representing Canada in 2003 include Kyle Wellwood, Ian White, Brendan Bell, Carlo Colaiacovo, and Matt Stajan.
Toronto Police are hopeful the medal will turn up.
They are reaching out to sports memorabilia stores and online auction sites.
Anyone with information should contact police or Crime Stoppers.
