SIU Probing Crash in Vaughan

Posted By: Newstalk 1010 · 1/23/2013 12:03:00 PM

The Province's Special Investigations Unit is looking into a crash that happened on Wednesday morning in Vaughan.

Investigators say around 7:30, a York Regional Police officer was headed southbound on Bathurst Street.

The officer allegedly tried to stop a vehicle that was moving northbound, so they did a U-turn, and tried to catch up to the vehicle.

It wasn't long after that happened, the driver of the suspect vehicle somehow lost control, driving off the road and down an embankment.

The woman behind the wheel was taken to hospital with a broken leg and a broken arm.

Three investigators, two forensic investigators and a collision reconstructionist are looking into the circumstances of the incident.

The SIU is called in when a person is killed, severely injured or there are allegations of sexual assault and police could have been involved.
