People gathered on the sidewalks around St Clair West and Oriole Parkway on Monday, around 11 o'clock, after flames started shooting out of the sidewalk.

Toronto Fire suggested it was a fire in a hydro vault that was caused by water pouring in from the sidewalk.

The original call came in around 11:05, and fire crews reported seeing flames shooting as high as 20 feet into the air.

Toronto Hydro said there didn't appear to be a widespread outage in the area.

Toronto Fire responded with 5 trucks and 20 firefighters.
