The proposal to build a 20-thousand seat arena in Markham goes before Markham council on Tuesday night.
An attempt will be made to scuttle the plan.
Councillor Colin Campbell has "reached the conclusion that, with all the figures presented, this will be a white elephant without an NHL" franchise.
He thinks the arena should be put on the back burner, and that talks with the NHL should be held first to see where they're going.
Graeme Roustan who has been leading the battle to build the arena has always insisted that an NHL team would not be needed to make the facility viable, and that an OHL franchise would be good enough along with wrestling, concernts, boxing, tennis and the like.
The debate begins at 7 p.m. Newstalk 1010's Justine Lewkowicz will be there.
