Toronto Party Goers Dress Up as 'Cowboys and Indians'

Posted By: David Woodard · 1/29/2013 8:36:00 PM

Less than a week after Attawapiskat First Nations chief Theresa Spence ended her hunger strike, the same month that the Idle No More gained national attention, adults went out to a Toronto bar dressed up like 'cowboys and indians.'

It happened Saturday when 20 people walked into the Rhino Bar in Parkdale dressed up in costume.

One of the people who was in attendance called into the Live Drive with John Tory on Tuesday and says he didn't see the big deal at first.

However, when he heard the complaints, he understood how it could be seen as insensitive.

He says they didn't dress up to be racist, he claims they just wanted to have a theme.

"they just wanted to have a theme" ignorance comes in many forms of indifference.

@al Is this what neo-liberalism entails? Decadence and dismissive indifference in place of being socially responsible?

Good job Toronto. One of the seven smartest cities my ass.

History repeats itself, and this so called innocent game/theme of Cowboys and Indians is a small example of why. Even John Moore seems to be ignorant of how this Cowboys & Indians theme came in to existence. Or doesn't care.

This isn't a matter of political correctness coming down on people's fun. It's about being accountable for historical wrongs until we reach a stage of enlightenment when it is no longer needed.

I'm really saddened to listen to this event get equivocated with that Jamaican commercial. Apples and Oranges.
