Posted By: Dave Bradley · 1/31/2013 3:40:00 PM

Toronto is so smart!

The City has been recognized as one of the one of the world's top seven intelligent communities of the year.

The designation was made by the Intelligent Community Forum.

In a release, Mayor Rob Ford called it 'great' that Toronto has the largest information technology sector in Canada and the third largest in North America.

Ford went on to say, "Over 160,000 people are employed in the local Information technology sector and that figure is expected to grow by 35,000 over the next five years."

How do you become a top seven intelligent community?

The ICF says it's for 'creating local prosperity and inclusion using broadband and information technology to attract leading-edge businesses, build skills, generate economic growth, and improve the delivery of government services.'

Other communities in the top seven: Stratford Ontario, Columbus Ohio, Taichung City, Taiwan, Taoyuan County, Taiwan, Oulu, Finland and Tallinn, Estonia.
