In Scarborough, a woman has been dragged to her death while strolling on the sidewalk.

It happened on Birchmount Rd, south of St. Clair Ave E Saturday morning.

Toronto Police Constable Clint Stibbe says the 65-year-old was hit by a car leaving an apartment building parking lot.  Stibbe says the Chevrolet Aveo dragged the woman into the street, at some point running her over.

Police arrived to find the woman still under the car.  She was freed & rushed to hospital where she died from her injuries.

Stibbe says it's too early to say whether charges will be laid against the 59-year-old woman behind the wheel of the car.

He says the traffic reconstruction team is still piecing together exactly what happened & why.  That includes a mechanical inspection of the car.
