Several arrested in illegal gambling ring bust

Posted By: Dave Bradley · 2/4/2013 1:12:00 PM

More than 2300 people got an unexpected surprise Sunday night at the Le Parc Banquet Hall, near Leslie and Regional Road 7 in Thornhill as the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit broke up what police are calling an illegal gambling Superbowl bash.

2.5 million dollars in cash was seized during the raid along with 20 computers police believe were being used for illegal gambling.

6 people were arrested, but most of the people at the party were allowed to go free, without any charges.

Officers from the York Regional Police and the RCMP suggest that's because they were going after the 'big fish'.

The Platinum Sports Book websites have also been seized by police.

Cops suggest the party at the banquet hall was not open to the public, and the only way to get in, was to have an invitation. Officers say you only got that invite, if you knew someone involved in organized crime.

Thank god we didn't get that cashino monstrosity in Toronto. With our limp noodle politicians you know it would have been on the waterfront. Good job my fellow citizens!
