A poll shows that Canadians (on average) are planning to save almost 10-thousand dollars this year.

That's an increase of about 600 dollars over last year. But the BMO Household Savings Report says the problem is that two-thirds of these saving-minded Canucks are tucking the money away to later blow on vacations, luxury items and entertainment.

Saving for retirement and emergencies, the poll noted, were secondary priorities.

The survey also found the average total savings among Canadians was just over 122-thousand dollars.

The online survey was conducted between January 10th and 15th and polled one thousand people.
